Lucy Sloane-WilliamsLucy Sloane-Williams: Candidate for Whitchurch, Overton and Laverstoke Ward

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council 2021

I live in Overton with my husband. My daughter went to Overton Primary School then Testbourne School so, like many parents, I used to run a regular unpaid taxi service around Whitchurch, Laverstoke and Overton! I have always believed in building strong communities where you can find help close at hand but also enjoy a good social life with local friends. I have served as a secondary school governor, run a local youth group, and served as an Overton parish councillor for 22 years. As a councillor I gained experience in planning issues including Neighbourhood Planning, highways matters and council responsibilities during my time as Chair. I have formal training and experience in business management developed in the production of pharmaceuticals and later working with hospital pharmacists. Several years ago, I also completed a post graduate diploma in Environmental Management.

If elected my priority would be to listen and act swiftly in response to residents' concerns. In council I would strive for sustainable (green) project options or solutions, whether reducing waste, building more energy efficient housing or offering smarter transport options. I am impressed by those in our community who are trying their best to help us reduce our impact on the planet and would, as a councillor, do all in my power to support them.
