Graham Walters.

Your Candidate for Andover Town Council.

I was born in Herefordshire and lived most of my early life in Ross-on-Wye, a town very similar to Andover in size. I served in the Royal Navy aboard surface ships and nuclear submarines for most of my adult life. I moved to Andover with my family in 2002, and I would now like to have an influence on the shape of the town that has adopted me in years to come.

Since leaving the Royal Navy I have worked in various roles, including a postman for Andover. I now own a business in The Chantry Centre. I feel in these days that business needs a voice on the town and borough councils. We have all been hit hard in the last twelve months, and councils and government have done little to alleviate some of the issues businesses and the town centre will face in the coming months and years.

I am not in favour of Andover BID. I feel they could be doing a lot more to promote the town to a wider audience. Instead of seeing Festival Place and Salisbury advertised on our town buses, I feel we should be seeing Andover advertised.

I would like to see the town council have more control over what happens in the town, in particular the new builds that are happening in and around the town as a whole. Other concerns are the state of the town's roads and pavements, the lack of recycling facilities, improving the cycle paths and setting up incentives for people to "cycle to work." I also feel we should be encouraging heavy industry to move out of the town, removing HGVs from the residential roads.
