North West Hampshire Lib Dems to call for stronger action on international corruption at Lib Dem Conference in Blackpool5.17.05pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 18th Sep 2005
North West Hampshire Liberal Democrats will be attempting to strengthen their party's policy on corruption at Lib Dem Conference on Monday. On Monday September 19th at 2.15pm, the Liberal Democrats will be debating a "Review of Millennium Development Goals". Oakley resident and Chair of North West Hampshire Liberal Democrats, John Burbidge-King, will be proposing tough measures on corruption for UK based exporting companies - making sure that UK-based company directors are held accountable for any bribery and corruption - even if it happens in other countries. John Burbidge-King commented "Corruption in developing countries is highly damaging and wasteful and we want to ensure that UK companies do their part in helping to stop it. Labour has not put tough enough rules in place - we want to make them stronger." The amendment reads "That all UK-based exporting companies are compliant with the provisions of the Anti Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001, and introduce externally auditable procedures with up to board level accountability, for the management and payment of their UK based and overseas sales agents and consultants to eliminate both overt and covert corrupt practices".
