Royal Mail today confirmed it will not be pressing ahead with proposals to transfer Whitchurch deliveries to Basingstoke.

"Having evaluated the suggested move and listened to input received from our people and our customers, we have decided to keep Whitchurch Delivery Office where it is. All 16 staff at Whitchurch Delivery Office have been told the news today after it was decided the move would not deliver the benefits to Royal Mail, its customers and employees that we first envisaged."

Alison Wall wrote, "This was the result of the massive campaign and petition which we launched and which John led as part of his County campaign. How ironic that the news came 5 days after John was defeated at the polls!"
