North West Hampshire Liberal Democrats have been celebrating victory in the Andover North county council division.

Local campaigner, Robin Hughes, was elected with a majority of 24 votes over his Conservative opponent. Labour were in distant third place.

The result was as follows:

Robin Hughes, Liberal Democrat, 2732 votes, (38.43% of poll)

Kenneth Whitehouse, Conservative, 2708 votes, (38.09% of poll)

Michael Mumford, Labour, 1669 votes, (23.48% of poll)

Robin Hughes commented "The local Liberal Democrat team has been campaigning hard all year round on local issues - such as putting pressure on the council for an Andover cinema, protecting the wardens service and resisting the proposed cuts in local health care staffing. These results reflect that."

Martin Tod, recent Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for North West Hampshire added "Across Hampshire, the Liberal Democrats have increased their number of councillors from 21 to 27. Robin will be a strong voice for Andover as part of the strengthened Lib Dem team."
