Councillor Alison Wall, who represented Whitchurch on Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council since 1995, died suddenly on 21 August. Alison will be greatly missed. As well as working hard for individuals in Whitchurch, Alison was a senior member of the Liberal Democrat led joint administration of the Council for 11 years. As Cabinet Member for Recreation she drove through the project to build a new Community Hall in Whitchurch.
"Alison was a hard working and hugely influential Councillor", said Group Leader Paula Baker. "She represented Whitchurch Ward for the past 12 years, was Vice-Chairman of the Health and Housing Committee, then Chairman of the Community Overview Committee. She became the Cabinet Member for Recreation and Culture in 2003, a post she held until control of the Council changed hands. We have lost a dear friend, but we have also lost a great champion of public service. Alison cared deeply about her local community and really did make a difference to many people's lives. She had a wealth of experience - before becoming a Councillor here she worked as a political assistant for Berkshire County Council, she held senior posts within the party and helped shape national party policy. She will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with her husband John and their family at this sad time."
Alison was a life long Liberal. Within the Liberal Democrats she had been Organiser for North West Hampshire and a member of the campaign teams in European Parliament elections and the successful Eastleigh by-election.
