Borough Council candidate Keith Watts
Whitchurch Liberal Democrats have selected Keith Watts to stand for election to Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council on Thursday 3 May.
Keith has lived with his wife, Jean, in Whitchurch for sixteen years. For the first eleven years he had to travel a lot for his work so he was only involved locally in social events such as rambling and quizzes.
Since taking early retirement, Keith has helped in various voluntary organisations where things needed doing in Whitchurch. He has also been involved in all the local Liberal Democrat campaigns such as those to save the Post Office counter and the Sunday bus services.
Keith Watts sees the three key issues for this election as:
1. Saving Whitchurch from over-development by good strategic planning
2. Investing in leadership and facilities for young people
3. Taking the lead locally in combating climate change.
Whitchurch has elected Liberal Democrats to represent them on the Borough Council for many years. In 2006, when two seats were up for election, the votes were cast as follows:
Liberal Democrats 51%
Conservative 37%
Green Party 9%
Labour 3%.
