Cllr. Robin Hughes
Test Valley Tories have rejected Lib Dem proposals to invest in environmentally friendly policies.
During a council budget debate Cllr Robin Hughes called for some of the surplus funds held by the council to be re-invested in increased recycling and other green policies. Large savings have been made from the ABC bin scheme and these savings should be re-invested in recycling.
"Reducing the waste that goes to landfill or incineration is a benefit to all residents" he said. Failing to do so would "confirm to residents that we are cutting back on services and pocketing the savings." His call for the council to show that it was serious about the green agenda had been fully costed and met government guidelines. Several councillors spoke in support of his plans but they were rejected out of hand by the Tory leadership.
