Local campaigner Linda Gates has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the St Mary's ward by-election in Andover. An Artists Way resident for 19 years, Linda is well known in the ward.
Linda is a governor at Roman Way school and has a keen interest in local education issues. Her son attended both East Street primary and Winton secondary schools in St Mary's ward.
As a chemist working in environmental analysis Linda can bring her professional skills to the community.
"I have a keen interest in environmental issues and want to continue with the work that Barbara Levitt started".
Linda has been a leading light in the Lib Dem campaign to bring a cinema to Andover, delivering a petition of over 1000 signatures to Test Valley Borough Council at their meeting in August 2004. Linda firmly believes that more entertainment and cultural facilities are essential for a growing town such as Andover.
