The Weavaway Travel 120 bus to Newbury and the Stagecoach Sunday Service 26/27/86 to Winchester and Basingstoke are under threat from Cuts by the Tory run County Council:
Cllr Alison Wall (right) dicusses the cuts with Whitchurch Mayor, Cllr Irene Clarke, and Cllr Ken Clarke
Both Whitchurch and Overton are affected by these threatened cuts.
Cllr Alison Wall would like to know how people are supposed to visit relatives and people in hospital on the day most people do this - Sunday! She says: "The Sunday service is used by 14,500 passengers per annum. The County currently pays £2.11 in subsidy but they say they want to save on Sunday services which cost over £2 in subsidy. This means that Whitchurch and Overton people are only worth 11p each - according to our Tory County Council!
I received letters and phone calls from distressed passengers who say the Newbury service would be sorely missed as they have no other means of getting there, particularly if they are young or old.
